Options trading is considered by many as an advanced way of
trading the markets due to the complex strategies that are often
referred to in educational courses and option trading books. Many
would say that options would not be considered to be a popular
market for the retail trader and is probably more suited to the
market professional.
That said there are an increasing number of retail customers who
are becoming interested in options trading and so the demand for
educational courses and training material is increasing. This has
resulted in a number of new books, webinars and seminars being made
available to the retail investor where simple and advanced options
trading strategies are taught.
Start with the basics rather than the complex strategies
The principals of
trading futures, forex or individual
equities are relatively simple and so when using these
products it is the market that needs to be researched before trades
are placed.
The principles of option trading are slightly different and more
complex and so not only is it important to understand the
underlying market and how it trades, but it is essential to fully
understand how options on these markets work and the strategies
that can be employed when trading.
Where to trade options?
Finding an options broker can be difficult, especially if you are
a retail trader looking to trade in relatively small amounts.
In the past, sellers of option markets have suffered large
losses when markets have become very volatile and so many
futures brokers have placed restrictions on account opening
with some requiring substantial opening balances before considering
the application.
One method that may provide easier access to these markets is
using a spread betting provider as some of the larger spread
betting companies are still happy to open retail option trading
accounts.
Option trading education courses tend to be quite advanced and
so for a basic product education, a training seminar or webinar is
often the best solution.
